This particular post will focus mainly on the live music heavy fortnight ahead of us, so here we go:

Finally, after being postponed since December 23rd, Big Daddy Kane will finally be performing in Toronto at the Phoenix Concert Theatre. The King Asiatic, No Equal has stated that he will be playing a two hour set with one mic, one dj, and two dancers. No opener, no none of that. It seems that a lot of us will be making the trip this Thursday, and there are still lots of tickets available, so if you wanna join us, let me know - or don't, and we will see you there!

The very next night, Friday, March 27, the one and only Jason Collet will be at London's own Call the Office alongside Zeus and Lioness. It's only $15 at the door, and he put on a fantastic night last time, even if I did have a little too much to drink, and hence, detailed memories are unavailable at this time.

Hamilton's Junior Boys seem to just get better and better. Their new album is great, I'm already in love with it and you should be too. Anyways, they will be returning to the Mod Club this Saturday and Sunday. I will be attending the latter of the two, which as of now is not sold out. They put on a hell of a show at the Mod Club, when I saw them a couple of years ago we were treated to special guests like We Are Marching On, Born Ruffians, Koushik, and Kieran Hebden (aka Four Tet). Sooo, we probably shouldn't miss this one.

Next Friday, April 3rd, New Brunswick's Julie Doiron is playing at London's own Chaucer's/Marienbad Restaurant. The show was scheduled at Alex P. Keaton, but has been moved. Anyways, Julie used to play in Eric's Trip, has won Junos, and usually appears on the Polaris Prize Shortlist. So let's not miss this one, it's gonna be great, and Chaucer's has the best beer selection in the city.

I would like to thank everyone who came out to Artists in Recession last Friday, it was an amazing time. All of the artists did a phenomonal job bringing it together at the last minute, congratulations to everyone involved. It was definitely the place to be in London, Ontario last Friday, we are in the early stages of planning another one, and of course you will all be kept posted. Extra thanks goes to our surprise guests from Calgary and Toronto.

About a month ago, we went to see Blitzen Trapper. They were fantastic, and super high energy. The venue was a sold out Horseshoe Tavern, and we managed to round up a last minute squadron consisting of myself and Kate, Litzen and Griff. Awesome team, good times had by all. Well worth the should've been four hour round trip that turned out at least double.

A week or so later, Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains played a mean jam at Call the Office. Another fantastic team of concert goers, which as I always say makes a huge impact on the quality of the evening. Again, good times for everyone involved, including Sebastien Grainger laughing his ass off when I told him he made the best album of 2008.

Rothbury Festival in Michigan has announced it's initial lineup, and it seems to have a bit of a hippy jam band fest (which I am in no way dissing). But sprinkled in there are so amazing acts like Damian Marley and Nas, Broken Social Scene, The Hold Steady, Chromeo, Mstrkrft, Cold War Kids, Quannum All Stars, Ani Difranco, Girl Talk and many more. I will be there, so hopefully you will be too.

This Thursday, Mike Miller and Ryan Mahy will be diplaying art upstairs at the Barking Frog on Richmond Street. We should all be going to support these two very talented fellows.
And then we should be hitting up Call the Office, for Sole, with Thesis, Sneaks and Gripski, Bogus, and Hullewudd.

Friday will be Toronto's own Timbre Timbre with Rock Plaza Central. 6 dollars, not to be missed, unless of course you're going to see Matt & Kim and Cut Copy at Circa, in which case you have an excuse.

Next week is finally Big Daddy Kane, at Phoenix, if anyone wants to join, we still have free tix and space in the limo. Get at me!

Art Show, Sole Show, Other Shows, Frankenhare

This Friday, March 13, 2009, at Michelangelo's in London will be the Artists in Recession event. I will be helping supply some tunes, and hopefully some art (assuming I have time to round some up). Either way everyone should come check it out, it will be an interesting display of local talent.

The following Thursday, March 19, at Call The Office will be the triumphant return of Sole to London. Last time the show was beyond dope, aside from minor sound system quality issues, and the fact that the Islands were playing the same night. Anyways, he's back and it should be better than ever this time. Check out some more info on Sole right here.

In other news, don't forget to join us for Bloc Party and Holy Fuck this Sunday, March 15 at Centennial Hall. I think it's $39, but I assure you it will be well worth it.

I highly recommend that we all join hands and watch Jean-Luc Godard's masterpiece known as Pierrot Le Fou, from 1965. I will be pressuring as many of you as possible to check out this movie. And to the few of you who get the comparison, Anna Karina gives Faye Dunaway in Bonnie & Clyde a pretty serious run for her money.

In up and coming order...

First I'd like to thank Monday's participants, from start to finish, I'm gonna work on getting us some better drink discounts at Martini Mondays so we can continue we the enjoyment, and hopefully bring out some more people, and some more DJ's. Good job by everybody involved, especially in the most epic Rock Band jams of all time.


First things first, The Hylozoists and Our Nation will be playing Fanshawe College's Out Back Shack this Friday, February 18th. Anyone who has been to either of the last two Lola Fests has hopefully had the good fortune to experience the Hylozoists. They make wonderful music that is enjoyable on several levels. Also, this event is free, so let's all go support awesome live music, and hopefully things like this will come to London more often.
