Again, in my countless hours out and about, as well as online, I come across some pretty amazing things. This blog was always a sort of therapy for me, as I would seek out the dopeness that's out there and present it here for you.

Bon Iver
I'm well aware that Justin Vernon and his band Bon Iver is old news, but the music never gets old. I once had the pleasure of seeing this band, in the rain, at Lollapalooza. I'd be jealous if I wasn't me. Basically, I just wanna remind you all to get into this if you haven't yet. It's atmospheric and soulful and amazing. This is probably my favorite tune of the album:
Watch the whole thing, it gets awesomer at the end, where elements of this video become part of the song itself.
I also recommend checking out the Ellie Goulding cover! Seriously, it's great.

What Happened in Calgary
Huhhhhhh, where to begin. Of course I've been a big bummer lately, so I've been reluctant to write this one in fear of sounding like a negative jerk. But you've all been waiting so patiently, so here's what's been going down.
1. A couple days before I left, I managed to beat a bunch of other designers to the punch in order to make a flyer for the legendary Abstract Rude's Western Canada Tour. Anyways, after a few drafts and a bunch of hours, here's what we came up with:

2. I ventured on a mission to surprise Riley in Calgary for his 27th birthday. He had no idea I was coming. I was flying out of Toronto, and it turned out my current fave band The Whigs were playing with Band of Skulls at Mod Club. Jimmy being the whatever type of guy that he is was down. Long story short, predrinks and walkin' doobs, 7.50 Heinekens, and the best rock show I've seen since Broken Social Scene with Isaac Brock.
For real, so tight, so energetic, pure balls out rock and roll. Better than the album quality sound. Check that shit, it's been helping me smile in a dark time.
3. I wake up on the first of many couches this week, and begin my mission to the airport, which thanks to the homey Sawtay's guidance, I made it to for 3 bucks instead of 50. Got to Calgary, surprised the shit out of my brother Munroe, and made it to the Debra show to surprise Riles.
When we caught up to him, he had a look of disbelief, like he was trippin out. It was gold. He knew then and there, that this weekend would be expensive. Debra was off the hook, full of energy and attitude. Sounding dope as ever.
4. We spent the next couple of days helping Kyle and Jennalee move, which is not our first choice in vacation activities, but let's be honest, anything with this crew is good times, and Kyle knows how to show gratitude. That night we enjoyed a drunken game of Risk which resulted in 2.5 hours of Munroe and Kyle rolling dice at eachother and Kyle coining the term "If I'm gonna lose, at least I'm losing to a bigger loser."
5. The next day we finish up moving in the am and roll to a Calgary Roughnecks lacrosse game. This was my first, and apparently wasn't that exciting, but I was bigtime entertained. Def worth it.
We walked maybe ten minutes from the game to Livestyle Annual Hip Hop Festival where we were treated to a 2 on 2 Bboy battle. And finally a perfectly flawless headlining set by the super legendary De La Soul. Shout out to the hipster hoola-hoop girls. I hope that shit catches on if it hasn't already!
6. That night turned into a shit show after a bbq and predrink featuring lots of old friends and some quality new ones. Lunchboxes, irish car bombs, the make a wish foundation, mustard thievery and middle eastern cuisine, oh yes. Good times.
7. Finally, Sunday we pull off the WORST game of frisbee of all time, resulting in the realization that Kyle will always be richer than the rest of us. He's the man, he deserves that shit.
We take Munroe to the airport, I missed him right away, that dude is the fuckin man. God bless him.
8. The next day I take way too long to get home, and it's taken me days to get my shit back together. Although I seem to be on the verge.
9. Really, it was the dopest time. Big thanks to Allana and Riley, Kyle and Jennalee, and Munroe. Some of the greatest on Earth. Also James is cool as shit.
I really needed that. Also, if you're reading this, thanks De La Soul.
10. Anyways stay tuned, I found some inspiration out there, and I'm working on putting it to page, canvas, whatever. But in case you wanted to hear about it, that's what went down.

What a Fantastically Well Lit Hallway
1. Chandler is smoking on an episode of Friends and Rachel points out that it's worse than the the thumb Phoebe just found in her can of soda. True that Rachel, true the fuck that.
2. It's been a tough week, a tough few months. Scott's on vacation, so as episode 1 of his new season starts, my season finale is upon us. Hopefully it's a good to-be-continued. Stay tuned, it'll be worth paying attention, no matter what.
3. I recently hit the front page of Redbubble. That's huge. Thanks to everyone who's reading this cause you're probably the same people who support my art as well. I love you!
4. As far as future plans, I'm trying to contact as many galleries, magazines, bands, blogs, everythings as I can...so if you can help, or if you know somebody I should be talking to, don't hesitate. I really think I'm ready to follow this dream. But I need your help.
5. I've been working with some new folks like http://www.tallkidd.com and http://www.epitome27.com and I'm hoping that between our 3 (their) massively creative and intelligent brains, we can come up with something sick. Again, I advice paying attention, cause like, well...you just should. Between Josh's fascinating writing and Jesse's vivid and sometimes shocking photography, not to mention my ability to paint blue people.
6. Scott has made his way to the left coast. I suggest you read about it at These Lions. It's dope, and inspiring, and not longer than Lord of The Rings.
7. The Gorillaz, LCD Soundsystem, Broken Social Scene all have new, mind blowingly, mountain moving, epic, retarded awesome, groundbreaking albums. Buy them all and I promise you'll have an awesome summer.
8. My pool's gonna be open soon. You're invited.
9. I'm not making it to 10 this time. Sorry if you were looking for 10, my brain is exhausted. You barely even get nine.

This Will Take Some Getting Used To
Okay friends, it's been an excellent weekend, here's what's been happening.
1. Art Fusion 5. Ryan is definitely getting good at this. His collection and curating was at it's finest, in my opinion. His decision to put the regulars (Myself, Pat G, Darryn R, Brian J, and Sam C) in the back worked nicely. I managed to move 9 pieces in total. A huge record breaker for me. Thanks so much for everyone's support.
2. Managed to stop by the pub after for a couple with a solid group and a rendezvous with super support master Brendan, of the Tall Cans, whose song about me was flattering and awesome all in one.
3. Caught a free Sunday afternoon matinee of genius Albert Nerenberg's 'Laughology' at Museum London. Definitely a must see. It's a documentary about laughter without humour, how we all take ourselves way too seriously, and how laughter can be therapeutic, physical exercise, and medicinal. Don't lose your laugh, look this up.
4. After an agreeable steak dinner and some pre drinks, Laura and I made our way to Club Mansion to slide past cover thanks to the super generous hook ups of Laidback Luke and his tour manager Tony Dekker. We managed to get about a hundred dope photos thanks to Tony, who even had Luke pose for a bunch mid-set.
Unfortunately we had several too many drinks and left before our chance to meet Luke. But, Luke played a monstrous set of huge bangers seamlessly mixed for a slightly unappreciative crowd, who although partied their asses of, may have missed some of the subtleties in the mix that made this event so dope.
Laura also managed to get doper photos than I did, maybe cause she's a better photographer than me, maybe cause she's fearless in a crowd of sweaty Jersey Shore extras (not hating, just jokes). Either way, she (and I) had a fuckin blast.

Thanks to Laura, Luke and Tony for making that one to remember. Much respect.
5. We woke up hungover as fuck, missed most of our classes, Laura's car broke down. I like to think it was worth it, but we're still yet to see how much the bill is on that one.
6. I also managed to rock out a tribute to everyone's favorite drummer/super producer Quest Love, of the Roots. Here's that.
7. Today I've been working on my Flash Iphone project which I'm about ready to light on fire and throw down the stairs. If anything other than you-know-who makes it tolerable, it's this list of new albums I've run through.

I'm super thankful I got to see Jason turn these out a couple weeks ago, and can't wait to see MGMT at Sasquatch now, and have already emailed Bonobo about his Toronto show. The music of 2010 is gonna be getting better and better.
And anyone who disses the new MGMT needs to get with the times. It's gonna take some getting used to, but I could see myself loving this one WAY more.
Right now I'm on to the new Ellie Goulding. So dope. So dope.
8. Scotty's getting tings together to ride a Greyhound across the continent for Coachella. He's setting up These Lions for you to read, watch and listen to what happens. Stay tuned, this'll probably be Epitome worthy.
9. As Scott prepares for Coachella, the rest of us get ready for Sasquatch, Lollapalooza, Osheaga (maybe), Halifax, and a mission from London to Buffalo to Toronto to Detroit all in one weekend. Get ready for this Summer, gonna be the best one yet.
And James got us rich people camping at Sasquatch! Ha!
10. New hookups from Two Hours Traffic! Some sweet surprises to come! Keep suggestions coming, I'm finally on my career path. Thanks to everyone who helped or stood in the way, you all matter. Some more than others.

The Next One
Lately it's been good day, bad day. For me, and my best friend.
Sometimes it's tough as fuck to remember that seasons are changing, and we just have to let ourselves move one day at a time. Although I've heard it 10 million times, I'd like to thank Mtulazaji of the Freestyle Fellowship for that piece of wisdom, of which he has hundreds of millions.
So I don't know if I can run y'all another ten, but here's a couple.
1. The reason I started this post, was to thank the artists with some weight and status who will still reach out to the up and comers like myself. Arts & Crafts as a record label is how things should be in the music industry, at least as far as how they've dealt with me. They get back to you promptly, respectfully, and they create and appreciate art. And that's what they are about. No wonder so many amazing artists get down with them.
Artists like Sinden and companies like Jeepney that will reach out and help you out when they can. It's beyond dope. Hookup kings. Can't thank them enough.
Of course, conversely, there's people who don't wanna stay grassroots and won't even consider it. People who race to say no. And only tell you why when you keep buggin them. I didn't start this blog to talk shit or be negative, so I won't name names. But keep discouraging people, see how that works out in the long run.
2. Right now, I'm jamming to the Flaming Lips-Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. It makes me wanna skip school and work and find a field of daisies to skip through. Get this album yo! You NEED it!
3. My cousin is a marine. He's tough as nails and he's had the hardest times imaginable lately. And this is his Facebook status:
"Standing duty in chucks, just when I thought shit couldn't any gayer, and for some reason, I'm craving a mcgriddle... The mutha fuckin syrup nugget."
Trooper to the fullest. Much respect to that young gentleman.
4. My plans for forthcoming art lately are gonna be pretty close to the chest. But there's gonna be more musicians, more inspirations, way more colours and shapes, and way more fun. This is what I wanna do with my life, so those who support and encourage, I could never explain how much that means to me. Love you.
5. Laura. Do you know this girl? She is a fuckin ass kicker. Know yourself lucky to be around such an entity of greatness and encouragement. If there's a better girlfriend, bestfriend, sister, daughter, and everything else, the world will likely explode. Laura is proof that there is good in this world, no...great, no...exquisite beauty, inside and out.
She's had some tough days lately, and I hope she knows that I've got her back, cause she's got mine. The look in her eyes when I create something new makes it worth doing. Let's be real, everyone else appreciating means the world, but this girl means the universe and the galaxy and at least five or six neighboring galaxies on top of that.
I encourage you to befriend this exceptional force of awesome, you'll be better than you were before. Just look at me.
Thank you Laura. Not a matter of hours goes by that I'm not thankful for you. Head up, we got this. We make the dopest team and I intend to keep it that way.

43. God damn!
So I kind of like the way the last one of these worked out, so maybe I'll continue with the listing of things, cause, hey, it's easier for YOU.
1. So I've had the last week off, had some super tough family times, special lady off in paradise, which in turn means I have time to paint my ass off. (And in a couple of cases drink my ass off). Anyways I managed to finish 22 pieces this past week, which is gonna be my excuse for not updating this blog, if anybody noted my absence. Don't forget to check em out! and if you ever want anything, don't hesitate to ask for it.
2. When I was in Baltimore a couple years ago, I met some nice fellows from El Jefe Design. I bought a Black Lips, a Melvins, and a Wolf Parade. Shit's dope. Highly recommended.
3. The Girls Can Hear Us are at it again, and finally posted a digital EP for you to download for FREE. So go do that, check out their store too. I'm working on something special and limited edition for them. Wait for it....
4. I'm not really DJing anymore, at least in public, and here's why: I can't be a top 40 crowd pleaser all the time, or even half the time. And people are rude. People treat DJs like the enemy, as if the DJ wants you to have less fun if they are trying to be creative with track selection and not just drop obvious hits. I will probably never STOP djing, but at least take a break. Art is my thing right now, and it's better in that, at least if people don't like it they don't tell me to my face.
5. Woodhands at Moon Over Marin were extremely dope. The funny thing was all the skinny jean scenester grumpyfaces who looked miserable to be somewhere they had obviously chosen to be. Hmm, I don't get it. I though this indie hipster style culture was about originality but seriously, these cats all look the same to me.

1. So I've had the last week off, had some super tough family times, special lady off in paradise, which in turn means I have time to paint my ass off. (And in a couple of cases drink my ass off). Anyways I managed to finish 22 pieces this past week, which is gonna be my excuse for not updating this blog, if anybody noted my absence. Don't forget to check em out! and if you ever want anything, don't hesitate to ask for it.
2. When I was in Baltimore a couple years ago, I met some nice fellows from El Jefe Design. I bought a Black Lips, a Melvins, and a Wolf Parade. Shit's dope. Highly recommended.
3. The Girls Can Hear Us are at it again, and finally posted a digital EP for you to download for FREE. So go do that, check out their store too. I'm working on something special and limited edition for them. Wait for it....
4. I'm not really DJing anymore, at least in public, and here's why: I can't be a top 40 crowd pleaser all the time, or even half the time. And people are rude. People treat DJs like the enemy, as if the DJ wants you to have less fun if they are trying to be creative with track selection and not just drop obvious hits. I will probably never STOP djing, but at least take a break. Art is my thing right now, and it's better in that, at least if people don't like it they don't tell me to my face.
5. Woodhands at Moon Over Marin were extremely dope. The funny thing was all the skinny jean scenester grumpyfaces who looked miserable to be somewhere they had obviously chosen to be. Hmm, I don't get it. I though this indie hipster style culture was about originality but seriously, these cats all look the same to me.

Cause It's Time To
Okay, so if this is my only post this week I apologize for that, but hey, it' a busy one. So here's what you probably need to know.
1. Wilco is playing tonight in London, and we've got a dirty lookin' team concert posting up 5th row center. So I'll be sure to let you know how that goes. In the meantime I'm checking out all 70 Wilco tracks on my Ipod while painting/finishing assignments.
If you're there, I'll be the one sitting next to the girl who's way too beautiful.
2. A professor looked through some of my work today and with some enthusiasm directed me to Syndrome Studio, and I'm disgusted by how amazing their stuff is. Check out their reel, it's mindblowing. My new goals are to buy land with (2) horses and several dogs and work for Syndrome Studios.
3. I'm doing a new series of painting of my favorite musical ladies, as I usually stick to the gentleman, I figured it's time to switch it up and expand. Usually I would keep this a secret, but I want you all to look forward to it. So, in this order, you can expect:

-Zooey Deschanel
Pretty sure Karen and Zooey are already sold.

5. Have you been reading the Vagrant Optimist's blog? Or checking out the Epitome? Cause if you haven't you're missing out. It's all very entertaining, educational, and inspiring. So, the blog is here and the website is here. So, now you know. Don't sleep!
6. There's an awesome band that you probably don't know yet, and they are called The Dudes. I feel like, although I am not an FM96 listener (even at all), that radio station was built for The Dudes and they don't even know it. Every track on their new album "Blood Guts Bruises and Cuts" is awesome. It's given us a couple theme songs, especially 'Had Enough of It'.
7. There's a track on Maddecent that's Snoop and Kid Cudi with Diplo on the beat. Try to guess who the weakest link is? I won't say, cause the point of this blog is to point out dopeness not wackness, but here's a hint...it sure as fuck isn't Diplo.
8. Remember that song Top Qualified by Haiku D'e Tat and Quannum? I'm doing a painting series of all those dudes, but unlike the Wu Tang, you can get just one if you want! Look forward! I'll be displaying work at Grooves in April, so go check em out! And don't forget about my portfolio.
9. I have a ton of commissions and freelance biz on the go, get at me if you'd like anything done. I will do it all!

So, the weekend was good, Valentine's day was excellent, internal Serato is useful good times, art submitted to Art Fusion 4, tons of work to do, my beautiful girlfriend is the best muse/inspiration/girl to think about/the most adorable when she first wakes up and can't find me. Life is pretty good all things considered.
I'm praying for my amazing aunt Kim who really isn't feeling well...if only inner beauty determined physical health. She'd be set for centuries to come. I also miss my poor old dog, Riley. That dog was way too awesome. Hope she's somewhere better.

Weekend Biz
Let me just start by saying that the new Spoon album "Transference" is a must. In the same way that sunglasses is a must. It's grittier sounding than their previous several albums, on purpose, which is kind of awesome because the band sounds better than ever together. In my opinion the highlights are the couple of tracks where they drop the vocals part way through, pick up the tempo, and rock instrumentals for a couple minutes. The album is the soundtrack for everything.

Since We Last Spoke
Okay, so a short while ago, your friend (if you're lucky) and mine requested that I document each show I attend, in an effort to keep track of exactly what the hell we do with all of our time, money and brain cells. So, let's go back and see if we can do a quick rundown of what we've been through since last time I got down on one of these.
This particular chapter takes us back to November concert week, so here we go:
Malajube and Young Galaxy - November 3, 2009 - Call The Office - London: We almost forgot about this one, Scott calls while we're watching Year One (it had it's moments), asks what he and Phil can do on this night...and it occurs to me, super rad French Canadian indie masters Malajube are in town. We made the venture to meet them. So Team Concert be: Me, Laura, Scotty, and Phil. We chilled in the back, missed 95% of Young Galaxy, and loved the shit out of Malajube. Check em out.
Most Serene Republic - November 4, 2009 - London Music Hall Lounge - London: This one came together nicely...after a surprise awesome hilarious visit to amateur night at Yuk Yuks, we met up with some awesome ladies and made our way to this beauty of a show. Although not the most remarkable of the week, it was nice to finally see this super melodic, now-Toronto superband. Phages being the obvious (but still surprising) highlight of the evening.
Boys Noize - November 5, 2009 - London Music Hall - London: I was unceratin about this one from the beginning; cash was already getting short, the scene at these shows is always alienating and pretentious, and I was in the zone painting a piece for the source of my recent inspiration. Long story short, I finished the piece (cause she inspires like crazy), and met Scotty to make our way to what we were about to discover was a UWO scenester fashion show with a phenomenal DJ. The crowd seemed more interested in rocking scarves and power ranger shoes than absorbing the super energetic, mindblowing performance put on by Germany's electro/techno front runner Alex Ridha aka Boys Noize. But we didn't go for them, we went for him, and it was well fuckin worth it.
Dan Auerbach - November 7, 2009 - Phoenix Concert Theatre - Toronto: Woods bros and Mitchell bros joined forces for the long anticipated Toronto performance by the front man of the legendary Black Keys. After several pitchers and an evil doobie I found myself on the receiving end of a disgusting headache slightly hindering my ability to rock out sufficiently. Auerbach was great, obviously, this being my 4th time seeing him, he never ceases to amaze. Unfortunately we left a little early, part way through 'When The Night Comes' and missing 'Whispered Words', but we sure did catch everything else we wanted. All in all, good times yo.
Fiery Furnaces and Cryptacize - November 8, 2009 - Call The Office - London: Show of the week. Hands down. Being introduced to Cryptacize was the surprise none of us were expecting, the California foursome was nothing short of engaging from start to finish. As for Fiery Furnaces, I had seen them at Pemberton Festival 2 years ago, and this kicked the living shit out of that. Playing 20+ tracks, going from breaks to folk ditties to metal to punk to chillout indie shit and back, sometimes in a four minute span. Duplexes of the dead was possibly the best song I saw live all week, and realistically I probably saw almost 200. This was not a show to miss. Can't wait to check them out again.
Pigeon John - November 9, 2009 - London Music Hall Lounge - London: This is my night to DJ, but thankfully Scotty is a hookup king who covers for me so I can check out one of my favorite MCs for his triumphant return to London. Meeting many friends there, I traveled with Meghan and Will, and we were super impressed by PJ's high energy, hilarious, hard to follow, solo set. I swear if you don't like or have never heard of this guy, just watch him do Hello Everybody live. You'll be a fan for life. Unfortunately we didn't stay for Josh Martinez (who was apparently amazing), but that's okay, cause I got to see my favorite girl instead. And that's better than pretty much everything.
We were due for a bit of a break after checking out 7 great shows in 8 short days, so I took a few days, painted a shitload, made some new friends, did some homework, pretended I had a job, and you know, partied way too much.
Apostle of Hustle - November 17 - London Music Club - London: Okay, I'm being biased when I say this may have topped them all. As I've said in the past, it's all about the company, then the entertainment. But this night had 100% of both. Myself and a semi-skeptical (note: skeptical, not cynical) Laura made our way through the cold way too early, to chill in the unparalleled chilled out atmosphere of LMC, enjoyed too much great conversation and acceptable house wine. No doubt, there wasn't anything to turn this night sour. After the surprise excellence of opening performer Fraser, everyone was mellowed out and anticipating where Apostle of Hustle would take it next. Minus their bass player, AOH took the stage and within seconds had everyone in the room wondering if they should be laughing their asses off or gasping in amazement at both the hilarious stage antics and undeniable talent and creativity between guitarist/lead singer Andrew Whiteman and drummer Dean Stone. Running through a wide spectrum of tunes from the entire catalog, we both had an awesome time, and are better friends for it. This girl makes me awesome, and if you don't believe me, check out what I've been up to lately.
Art Fusion - November 21 - Il Tenore - London: After 2.5 weeks of painting my ass off, thanks to my new inspiration (if it's getting old and you think I should stop, too bad, I ain't gonna), the night finally arrived. I harassed Mahy until he gave me a top spot, and I'm glad I did. Everyone's art looked fantastic, the music was on point, and the company was perfect. I thank everyone who came to support, it really means the world. I wish that everyone could know how it feels to have the person who inspires you like crazy be that proud of you. I'm not really sure if it gets a lot better than that.

I Answer Questions With Questions, Fight Fire With Fire
When I'm Expressin' Expressions, Take You Higher and Higher, Goin' Deeper and Deeper, To Read the Fine Print, Didn't Like The Definition So We Redefined It...
If anyone were to ever be jealous of me for anything, the only thing it could possibly boil down to are the fucking amazing people I find myself surrounded by. The past couple weeks have been turbulent, to say the least, and the amount of support and love and appreciation has been nothing short of legendary.
Whatever I did right to deserve this, I have no idea. But I love y'all, you'll never know how much. You have no idea how great you all are, and if you're reading this, chances are I'm talking about you.
After the past weekend of partying way too much and having way too much fun I found myself in a subsequent booze fueled depression. It has been happening more than I would like, but at least I know what's causing it. I set out for some quality conversation with some of my nearest and dearest, and found myself back on the right track. I'm not gonna name names...actually yes, I will: Munroe, Kate, Riley, Scotty, Kim, Rhoslyn, Rob and Tommy B. You are amazing, wonderful people and I thank you sincerely for being such great friends.
I was intending on reviewing the shows I went to this week, before the long term effects of Call The Office's draft "beer", shots of Jameson, bad red wine, quarts of Heineken, too many Steamwhistles, and of course doobies erase the memories forever. But I thought I should first attempt to document my gratitude toward these incredible human beings who have turned me back into myself again. You're the best friends anyone could ever ask for. Picks of the litter.
Anyways, Thursday, Oct. 22 - Hidden Cameras - Call The Office...This show was grossly undersold, and with a gang of two (myself and awesome lady Meghan), team concert was incredibly underrepresented. Either way, we missed the opener, we drank a couple of pitchers, we sat in a booth at the back the whole time and talked through a good portion of it, but it was fucking solid times. If I had to guess I would say they played almost half of Awoo! which was sick, and all of their new songs sounded excellent. But, as the next two will also point out, the fun had was more about the company than the party. And that's how it should be.
Friday, Oct. 23 - The Stills and Metric - Centennial Hall...Due to the shitty weather, we brought Rock Band pre drinks out. Of course, after taking the summer off we were all pretty rusty, but myself and the Woods's still managed to rock out Sunday Morning way more times than necessary. After being joined by the homegirl Rio and her lil cuz, we made our way to the show. Missing 99% of the Stills (except for Being Here and Snow In California), we were treated to a sweaty mess of a drunken dance party. Woods's were stuck on the balcony until half way through Metric, when I circumvented security and brought team concert together. And that's when it got retarded. Our obnoxious team definitely stood out as having way more fun than most groups, but hey, sometimes ya gotta do that windmill dance move shit.
Saturday, Oct. 24 - Broadcast and Atlas Sound - Lee's Palace...It's funny, up until now I completely forgot that I ran into Ian Doig Phanuef at this show, I like that guy. Anyways, I almost didn't come to this show, but with my recent requirement for people doing what they say they're gonna do, it was a no brainer (plus I fuckin wanted to). Anyways, I got to the capital city, and quickly linked up with bros Rob and Zack, and then Kate. I was drunk within an hour, and enjoying some high quality vegan chili at the always awesome Victory Cafe. Conversations started out amazing, and turned emotional for everyone involved (except Zack). It got intense, and then it got cool again, that is a great group of people who I would never trade for anything ever. If you ever have a chance to befriend the Greens, just fuckin do it, don't hesitate. Anyways, finally we make our way to Lee's, and right into the Jagers and Jamesons. I drank like Jimmy McNulty, which caught up to me in no time. Long story (semi) short, I missed Broadcast, and I was pretty happy to see Phil. We got stoned and rode the bus home, which is usually a sobering experience. Not this time.
I woke up this morning depressed and braindead. And that's when I was reminded not to be a negative jerk by so many beautiful people. This was a fucking epic few days, and life is good (oh so good), but sometimes it's easy to lose sight of the good stuff, that's why I wrote this. I love y'all, it's you that makes me awesome, and I'll never forget it.

Jeff Tweedy, techno drops right at the point in a conversation where someone says exactly what you wanna hear, chili, hard work paying off, dancing like an ass, pints of Labatt 50, new friendos, drinking red wine out of an old popcan, 10 mixes in a year, Fiery Furnaces coming to London, cats chasing feather toy things on a stick, the Astronomy remix of that Metronomy track, polaroids, unexpected visits, sad bastard emo rap about feelings, realizing that you're a crazy person and taking the appropriate steps, avoiding silly drama, staying focused, Boston Terriers named Roy, vocoders (or autotune, whatever, robot singing is dope), Wilco twice in three months, people getting what they deserve in a positive manner, realizing that the word swagger is being used on the wrong species (dogs have swagger, not people), Major Lazers, finding shelter, shirts with wolves on them, asking people what they are doing, Zombieland, drinking coffee out of a rocks glass, the hot/crazy rule, people crying while laying eggs while being laughed at by a smug little 8 year old boy, djing in a suit, cut copy remixes, have you met Ted?, the video for Wolves 1&2 by Bon Iver, pop n chips, Katy Perry, Stevie Wonder's birthday song, yolengo, Pomeranians, gettin discounts, writing lists like this one, the rain, the snow, scooters, vacations, fall, lying down in the grass, knowing that there is at least a slight chance that you might be on the right track, Monster energy drinks, dryhumping, oh and finding like, the best barrel.

It's Gonna Be Another Long One
Sorry again for promising to update and then not actually doing it. It seems I can only do one every few weeks and then they end up being way too long. But here it is my friends...this is what I've come across in the last few weeks that has been life enhancing and generally worth looking into. Make sure you read this whole post, there's goodies at the bottom!
This past weekend, I had the good fortune to repeat last years' idea of checking out 2 shows, with Nuit Blanche sandwiched in between. Last year i saw Ratatat on Sat and then MGMT and Beck on Sun. This year I had the opportunity to see slightly more obscure but just as (if not more awesome) Yo La Tengo on Saturday and Anti Pop Consortium on Sunday.
I have to admit, I'm not as familar with Yo La Tengo as I'd like to be, or should be, but they were great. They had a huge range from folkish to super grungy, with each member doing an instrument musical chairs, of sorts. I would see them again any day. Also, two encores, not too shabby.
On Sunday, we got super lucky and got to check out a very under-sold Anti Pop Consortium (clockwise from left: High Priest, Beans, Earl Blaize and M. Sayyid) show at Lee's Palace. They were legendary, rocking old tunes and new tunes, as well as solo Beans tracks and Airborn Audio tracks. We got to chill with them all after, very chill group of dudes, looking forward to their triumphant return in February.
Heard of Maya Jupiter? Some of us may know her from her appearance on the Aceyalone and Ab album "Lab Down Under", but other than that, she's kind of hard to come by. Well, I tracked her down, and she sent me a bunch of tracks for DJing. She is sick as hell, and not to be slept on. So please do yourself a favor and check out one of the dopest MCs (female or otherwise!) on the planet. Myspace!
This Sunday is Major Lazer (Diplo and Switch) and Crookers at the Kool Haus. I'm not gonna miss it. You shouldn't either. Wanna see Diplo rock a crowd? Check out this short clip I took at Lollapalooza.

What Can Be Done Today...
In an attempt to regress back to the original intention of this blog, I'm gonna update more and stick to the original plan. The original plan being an effort to counteract the negativity and constant complaining that we are constantly bombarded with. Hence, here are some things that are supremely awesome. It's time to stop and smell the things that smell good.
Kitties running through fields? Fuck yah! It's one of those things that you'll miss if you blink. So, seriously, we should all probably try to blink less.
Next Thursday, September 24th, LA Riots will be back in London (At Mansion). I haven't seen these guys in any of their many appearances in London but will more than likely come check this one out. I caught the tail end of their Lollapalooza set right before Diplo, and their remixes (especially of Kid Sister's Control) make this seem like a very worthwhile outing.
In the last couple months we've all been Hypemachining and have come across two (relatively) new, super talented bands known as The Xx and Metronomy. Although as far as I know, the two have nothing to do with eachother, they are both supremely dope and cutting edge. Both bands seem to have accomplished the feat of creating uptempo chillout music, which I am always down with.
The Xx (left) are from London, England and will be in Toronto at the Mod Club December 2nd (The same night as Friendly Fires, blast!). And you can check their Myspace, but I highly recommend you head over to Hype Machine and track down the Them Jeans edit of their track "Shelter".
As far as Metronomy goes, they are apparently not as new as I assumed. Joining forces in 1999, Metronomy have released 2 albums and remixed a whooole bunch of greats artists like Lykke Li and Zero 7. Check them out on Myspace and do yourself a favor and Hype Machine the track Not Made For Love (Astronomy Remix). Def my favorite of the jams right now.
The Toronto / Halifax duo More or Les and Fresh Kils have (finally) released their debut EP together titled Les Kils. Living in London, I haven't been able to snatch it up yet, but if Pop N Chips (featuring Timbuktu of Toolshed and Halifax's Ghettosocks) is any indication, this will be great. Check out the video, I dare you not to love it.
Apparently I'm about four years late on this one, but How I Met Your Mother is most definitely my new favorite TV ish. Everyone who's seen it agrees with me, and everyone who hasn't most definitely will. The only thing that is out of place is the laugh track, which seems...out of place. But seriously check it out.
Seriously it's fuckin delicious.
Did you see One Week yet? It's actually quite excellent, filmed entirely in Canada (majority Toronto) and jam packed with Canadian icons and music. Again, I wouldn't post it if I didn't recommend it. I gotta say I love the Emm Gryner part. You will too.
Who decided we need smaller hamburgers and way more of them? My jury is still out on this.
Slum Village. Always dope, no matter the roster. RIP Baatin and Dilla. Remember the video for Tainted? Remember the song Tainted, it was/is dope outta this world. Thanks to people like this who are enriching our lives on a daily basis, I hope everyone out there is continuing to let them. Life is better!

One Month Later
So it's been exactly one month, and lots has gone down. But not enough to excuse my lack of posts on this, for which I apoligize. For now, I don't really have any stories to tell so I'm simply going to bring everyone's attention to a couple of things.

Then, you should download or buy the spacey disco goodness of The Juan Maclean's new album, "The Future is Now". It's not too heavy or too soft so it works nicely for either morning music or party music. Highly recommended.

This One's For The Girls
Anyways, Lollapalooza was amazing. Not surprisingly, the surprising factor was WHO exactly turned out to be amazing. None of the headliners were as mindblowing as last years'. Instead it was the early and middle performers who really set it off.
For example, I managed to pull a solo mission where I consumed a nice doobie and 4 pints of Stella in the hour and a half set by Diplo. Needless to say I was mesmerized. I had never seen him before, and his set was surreal from start to finish, not just for me but for everyone who chose to attend. His seamless exploration of so many genres and styles had me wondering what the fuck was going on. Can't wait to repeat this one. (Photo credit: Marc Moran)
I can't possibly discuss everyone and everything that was awesome, because it all was. But I'd say other than Diplo, highlights be Band of Horses, Santigold, Atmosphere, Hey Champ, Sam Roberts, Boyz Noise, Delta Spirit and Gang Gang Dance (Although I didn't watch, I just layed there real baked for that one.)
Definitely headin back next year. More the merrier.

That's right, Amanda Blank's.
Start to finish (which isn't long enough) this album is solid. Beats, raps, vocals, guests...this is exactly what I've been waiting for ever since her verse on Spank Rock's "Bump" from 2006! The rest of the album has guests like Diplo, Switch, XXXChange and Benny Blanco, one of the Cool Kids (I forget which one), and Lykke Li! God damn!

Half Time
So if we want to look at it like this, summer is half over. It's been amazing so far, good people, good music, good times, less than desirable weather; but hey, this is silver lining.
A lot of fun stuff is coming up including but not limited to: the new Learn the Basics mix, lots of new art, leading to another show in Sept/Oct, Time Festival, The Hip, Hawksley Workman, Lollapalooza, Lykke Li, Miike Snow, Cubs/Phillies, Modest Mouse, VFEST, Lola Fest, Kings of Leon, Myself and TGCHU, Metric, Dan Auerbach and oh so many more.
School is just around the corner, personally I look forward to it, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Here's some stuff to know about in the meantime:
-Mondays: Keep coming out, they are good time jams, thanks to all who join us.
-Learn The Basics mix: Which I will using for shameless self promotion/selling out. One of my more ambitious recording projects, up there with Listen to Learn. Featuring: Metric, Spank Rock, Michael Jackson, Passion Pit, Freestyle Fellowship, Daniel Merriwether, Josh Martinez, Daft Punk, Matthew Dear and way way mo.
-New art: Working on a ton of shit, want one? Lemme know!
-Lollapalooza: Did you know that the Beastie Boys are taking a temporary hiatus as Adam Yauch has been diagnosed with cancer? Tough news for everyone, but fortunately it's all treatable, and he should fully recover. In the meantime the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have filled their Saturday night headline slot. Which I am okay with.
-Lola Fest is back in September! So far we can expect Final Fantasy, Bruce Peninsula and Akron/Family! Amazing!
-That same weekend of Sept 18-19-20, Kings of Leon and Glasvegas are coming to town at the JLC, and then the following day The Girls Can Hear Us will be rocking a show at Martini, details to come.
-And then on October 23, Metric and The Stills will be at Centennial Hall, and Nov 7, Dan Auerbach will be in Toronto at the Phoenix!
